Can A Low Calorie Diet Dry Up My Breast Milk?

I was 160lbs when I got pregnant and I wanted to lose 30lbs at that weight and then I gained 70lbs during the pregnancy so I had 100lbs to lose. I lost 40lbs just by nursing. Now I am planning to diet and I am breast feeding. If I decrease my caloric intake could it possibly dry up my milk?

depends on the age of the baby and how much you plan on lowering your calories.
if baby is over 2 months, then look here for some guidelines to dieting safely so it does not affect your health: http://kellymom.com/nutrition/mom/mom-we…
it will very unlikely affect your milk supply so long as you keep hydrated, but you can make yourself sick by not giving yourself enough calories to run your own body functions after your milk is produced.

My ob recommended that I not restrict my diet any more than 1800 calories. He actually likes to recommend Weight Watchers because I think they have plans that can be tailored to nursing moms. As shared in a previous post, drink plenty of water. Hope this helps.
