well, you don’t want to do any major weight loss thing. i have this thing where i gain about 5-8 pounds every winter and by spring i lose it all before summer. i go from 115 to 105 and back every year. so how do i lose the weight???
first off, don’t go crazy! usually in the winter we pick up some nasty eating habits. so check your diet, what do you eat too much of that perhaps you shouldn’t be??? a few years ago i used to drink one can of soda a day. i stopped drinking soda and suddenly lost about 7 pounds.
think moderation and eat a bunch of small meals opposed to eating a big dinner or something. if you crave sugar, eat fruit instead of candy. it will curb your appetite, especially an apple. sometimes when we think we’re hungry, we’re actually thirsty. so drink a half cup of water and see which one it really is.
eat everything in balance. don’t cut out carbs. carbs are you source of energy. they will give you vitality and energy. you will need this for exercise and endurance. eat proteins that the human stomach can digest better. heavy meat like beef takes longer to digest. so eat more poultry (bird meat) and fish (especially since they have all those awesome omega fatty acids… very very good for us all) and soy protein. don’t just stick to the average salad and turkey sandwich like a lot of people might do. there are tons of great things to eat that are healthy and delicious! find the fruits that remind you the most of candy. find vegetables that you could eat all the time. find a soy milk that tastes perfect whether it’s milk flavored or vanilla or chocolate flavored. i like chocolate the most and sometimes to curb my ice cream addiction, i drink a glass of chocolate silk or 8th continent. both awesome! although for a first time soy milk drinker, i’d reccommend 8th continent first. if you NEED sweets, keep something around and make it last… like a gummy candy or something. if you like cakes or cookies or ice cream.. just eat it in moderation. focus on making sure you are consuming all your necessary vitamins, minerals, and unsaturated fats (these are good for your heart!). avoid sugary juices and anything with high fructose corn syrup in it. don’t feel embarassed to read food labels in the super market. a lot of sugary juices have HFC in it, but it IS possible to find juices without it. stick to juices that have good things in it… like orange juice, apple juice and welch’s grape juice which all have vitamins and antioxidants in it.
don’t think about counting calories or losing weight. think about eating healthy. giving your body everything it needs.
now, EXERCISE! this is why you need to eat your carbs! if you aren’t used to being active, then start off every day a week working out for about 20 minutes. you’ll burn more calories by working the bigger muscles. so i’d reccommend jogging/running, dancing, jump roping, trampoline… anything where you are either using all parts of your body at once or using your legs at least. walking is VERY important and should not be considered a 20 minute exercise, but instead an additional activity to do. taking walks in your neighborhood and around town or even the mall every day…. it’s great because you burn so many calories with out even realizing it. once you feel confident you can exercise longer, then add another 10 minutes for your next week and keep going. for most people, considering how very inactive america is becoming, exercising 30 minutes a day would do everyone good. at my best, i usually belly dance or different forms of african or south american dances for about 2 hours a day. that’s the summer when i have a virtually flawless body! but every winter i slow down and have to start from the beginning again come spring time.
you don’t have far to go… and even though this is a lengthy response, you really don’t have to change so much about your life. it’s small little things. and if you change a few things here and there, in a month you will see a difference. the pants will fit better, your face looks healthier, you have more energy, you are more alert and can focus better… there are unlimited benefits to taking care of your body. i can only hope that i can get over my winter slumps and try and avoid gaining 10 pounds! i need to listen to my own advice come january. hahaha!
well, good luck to you and hope you find success and happiness!
I lost 50 lbs. on the atkins diet. But, the best way for you is no flour and no sugar, watch calories and exercise. You don’t say how old you are. Don;t over do.
First off, 115 is skinny already. Depending on where these 5 lbs are stored, most probably wont even notice.
However – you dont need a diet: just be smart.
Eat healthy, well balanced, never skip meals, dont snack unless you are hungry (needing food and wanting food are different, cravings does not mean hunger)
Drink plenty of water, it helps with hunger along with other things
Exercise – cardio is great to tone/slim the legs, and will help the upper body as well. Swim, run, bike, dance, anything you enjoy that gets your blood pumping. Remember, to lose the flab, you have to burn more calories than you consume.
