Is This A Good Low Carb Diet?
ok i started a low carb diet and this is the plan that i have thrown together mixed in with 90 min of cardio a day will i lose any weight?
Low Carb Diet:
breakfast: 4 eggs, ~ 1/4 lb of steak, 1/4 cheese, salsa in an omelete
snack: 3-4 boiled egg whites, +1 yolk throughout the day as desired
Lunch: 1 can of tuna or chicken w/ mustard and light mayo for lunch
snack: either some string cheese (<1g carbs) or handful of peanuts (5g carbs)
Dinner: A few chicken breast tenderloins, or a couple handmade hamburger patties
suggestionts on how to make the diet better would be appreciated
A low carb diet needs to be a high fat diet, greater than 65% fat. You won’t gain weight and possibly could lose weight but if you eat high protein you won’t access the fat burning capabilities of the diet, you will continue burning glucose and not your fat stores. While burning glucose, your body must deplete glycogen stores BEFORE accessing fat cells, if you are burning fat as fuel instead of sugar you directly access your fat cells but you must still have a diet high in fat to let the body know there is sufficient fuel (then it will access fat cells, just because it’s easier and you have excess)
I’m assuming you are making a diet up and haven’t gone through a 2 week induction, because light mayo & peanuts are not allowed til goal, if ever. Light mayo replaces fat with sugar which is definitely not low carb. You need a minimum of 3 days of very low carb to force your body into ketosis and burning fat as it’s primary fuel source. It takes 3 days for this conversion, but only one bite to transform it back to glycolysis (burning sugar as fuel source).
Calories don’t matter so if you can eat all this, go for it, but no egg whites only whole eggs. Make sure your eggs (foods) are cooked in oil or fat (maybe even put a pat of butter on your steak) Try to choose fattier cuts of meat. Eggs are a fine snack but to get your your fat up, deviled eggs (with mayo) are even better. Add extra full fat mayo to your tuna. Add half an avocado with mayo to your dinner.
You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you’ll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
If you starve yourself by lowering calories lower than are needed for the body to function, your body will freak out and will want to store every ounce in case it doesn’t get nourished again. You need to give it adequate nourishment so it doesn’t slow your metabolism down to adjust for lower calories.
Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.
Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want “something” have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.
Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a “diet” Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Lutz “Life without Bread” & Taubes “Good calorie, bad calorie” are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.
Reducing body fat and increasing muscle mass will have you in awesome shape in no time. Good luck!
I’m sorry Joseph…
I don’t think your diet looks good at all… and I’m only trying to help.
You aren’t getting any fruits or vegetables in any of your meals.
Fruits and vegetables are very important, and that is why I don’t agree with low carb diets.
Add them.. Do it for your health.
Take care.
